As anyone who lives in Los Angeles knows – dating in this city can be hell. Pure hell. Lisa Becker’s novel, Clutch, follows Caroline, a gorgeous Southern Bell with a Harvard MBA and the owner of a successful handbag company located in the City of Angeles.

As a handbag designer, Caroline begins to compare her dates to purses. There’s a Hobo, a Doctor Bag, a Fanny Pack and many more, but none of these men seem to be her “Clutch.”
Clutch – A Must Read This Summer
Caroline does indeed find love – and it turns out that her “Clutch,” was closer than she thought.
Before we go any further, I must reveal that the author, Lisa Becker, is a friend of mine. Before becoming a published writer, Lisa worked in public relations with major big brands like McDonalds, Ford, Sony and Gatorade. She’s also a former college professor, teaching classes in PR and communication at University of Southern California and Oglethorpe University. Lisa left corporate life to focus on writing and her family. She and her Doctor husband (score!) have two gorgeous kids. (As I write this I’m feeling like a total slacker.) She’s also written and published the chic-lit novels (much like Clutch) the Click Trilogy, a contemporary romance series about online dating and Links, a standalone romance novel.
Typically, I’m not a chic-lit lover. I’m not really a fan of romance novels. However, I truly enjoyed Clutch. It’s sexy, funny and very relatable. I loved the witty, back and forth banter between Caroline and her best friend from Harvard, Mike. It’s an easy read, perfect for a beach day or a poolside lounge chair.

As always, thank you for reading!
